AFRICAN REGIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION (ARIPO)



Post of Director General of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO)

Duty Station: Harare, Zimbabwe

Background of the Organization:

ARIPO was created, inter alia, to promote the development of Intellectual Property laws appropriate to the needs of its members, establish common services and training schemes, and assist its members in the acquisition and development of technology and the evolving of common views on Intellectual Property matters.

Membership of the organization is open to all member states of the African Union (AU) or of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The present members of the Organization are: Botswana, Eswatini, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. (Total: 19 States)

It is the intention of this Vacancy Announcement to fill in the post of the Director General which will lay vacant effective from the 1st of January, 2021.

Qualifications:

The prospective candidate must be a citizen of any of the ARIPO Member States and must possess at least a Master’s Degree in business administration, engineering, law, public administration, sciences or social sciences or technology. Additional qualifications in any of these fields would be an added advantage. The prospective candidate must have at least five (5) years of experience of administration in the field of Intellectual Property at a senior level, and a further ten (10) years of experience in administration and corporate governance at a senior level with a demonstrable track record. Minimum age limit is 35 years, while the maximum is age limit is 60 years at the time of making the application.

Experience:

The prospective candidate must be a strategic thinker, with demonstrated successes as a leader of personnel, operations, programmes and teams including excellent organizational skills to ensure a flexible yet result driven approach. Possession of superior communication, negotiation and diplomatic skills and being a consensus builder amongst diverse groups of stakeholders will be an added advantage. The prospective candidate should be respected as an inclusive and empathetic leader who brings strong Intellectual Property acumen to the Organization.

Compensation:
A competitive expatriate package including post adjustment, housing, dependency and educational allowance, etc. will be offered to the successful candidate.
